BizEd Magazine (BizEd) has done it again, yet this year they've done it in style. Since September 2001, BizEd has served as the leading voice of business education to the management education community. Its reputation of excellence is well-known within the b-school family, and this summer the magazine's vision of being THE source of information—and a forum for ideas for business educators—was well acknowledged.
In every issue, co-editors Tricia Bisoux and Sharon Shinn produce inspirational content and work to create both a positive and powerful brand for the b-school industry. These efforts, and much more, were recognized in August by the Florida Magazine Association (FMA) when they named the publication as the 2014 Magazine of the Year, the association's highest honor.
Each year, the FMA presents bronze, silver, and 'Charlie' awards in 75 categories in areas of general, editorial, design and printing excellence, and represents the pinnacle of achievement in the Florida magazine publishing industry. The Magazine of the Year award recognizes the magazine that is judged not only to have the highest overall quality in all areas, but one which best fulfills its mission.
This précis is one that AACSB has long known, and was described succinctly by one of the 2014 judges. "BizEd is an outstanding publication, delivering targeted news and stimulating ideas to its audience! The design provides a nice pace and excellent visual style, while the content provides a wide-angle look at business education through practical and conceptual reporting and editorials."
The panel of judges, which included leading representatives from the publishing industry from outside Florida, selected BizEd from a field of nearly 700 entries. And, along with this distinction, the FMA presented five other awards to BizEd—including Best Overall Magazine from the 'Association' category.
"BizEd's reputation as the world's leading source for authoritative information, ideas, and insights related to management education is no accident," said Julianne Iannarelli, vice president of Knowledge Development at AACSB International. "Each issue draws on unparalleled access to the world's best business schools to showcase emerging concepts, best practices, and the latest industry news."
In addition to receiving top awards from the FMA, BizEd also received three Tabbie Awards from Trade, Association, and Business Publications International, and two EXCEL Awards from Association Media & Publishing. These five awards, paired with six from FMA, gives BizEd a total of 11 premier industry honors for the 2014 awards season.
The following acknowledgements represent only a small token of the energies that are demonstrated by the BizEd team, and the publication's guest authors:
"It is an honor to be named the 2014 Magazine of the Year, and for BizEd to accept each of this year's awards," said John Fernandes, president and chief executive officer of AACSB International. "Since its start, BizEd's excellence in journalism has been recognized through more than 60 awards and accolades. We extend the honor of these distinctions to our global membership body, and are proud that BizEd and its editorial team continue to achieve well-deserved praise."
